Lord Warden’s Post Installation Visit to Lydd – Thursday, 31 October

Following the Installation of the Lord Warden on 29th October 2024 the Mayor of Lydd, Cllr Bob Jones, was delighted to welcome Admiral Sir George Zambellas GCB DSC DL, Lord Warden. Lady Amanda Zambellas and Lt Alex Firth, Flag Lieutenant to the Lord Warden to Lydd for their post installation visit on 31st October.

After a brief stop at the Guild Hall for introductions the group were collected by Army transport to travel to Lydd Ranges where we were met by Maj Paul Hartley the Chief of Staff Training Delivery Unit 2 and Capt Dan Saville to be briefed on Operation Interflex.

The purpose of the visit was to observe trainees conducting the Individual Battle Shooting and to discuss the training experience with the international partner force company delivering the training. We were also able to see their field training to enable them to give aid to those injured.

The next stop was the Memorial Garden in Park Street which is where the poppy wreaths are laid on Remembrance Sunday following the Church Service.

A short walk followed to view the Church which is known as the Cathedral of the Marsh and is the second oldest operational Church in the United Kingdon- it is the longest Church in Kent and the second highest structure on the Romney Marsh (after Dungeness Power Station) as the tower is 136 feet and has a medieval stone spiral staircase.

Chris Aubrey delivered an informative and entertaining talk on the history of the Church.  Lastly, it was a return to the Guild Hall Chamber where a finger buffet lunch was enjoyed.
